Twenty-three high school students had to be transported to a hospital…
With what police described as mainly bumps and bruises after three school buses were involved in a minor collision in Vaudreuil-Dorion Monday afternoon. None of the injuries considered serious.
A first bus that had driven over the overpass on St-Charles Ave. that straddles Highway 40 had stopped at a light, when the school bus following it came over the hill and ran into it. Then the third school bus in line ran into the second.
“The area is known for minor collisions, because the crest of the hill makes it hard for drivers to see stopped traffic in time,” said Sgt. Daniel Thibodeau of the Sûreté du Québec, who noted he lives in the area and knows the intersection well. “Although three buses is rather unusual.”
Many of the students were transported to the Valleyfield Hospital. Investigators were interviewing the three bus drivers on Monday, but no criminal negligence is suspected in the accident, Thibodeau said. No road closures were required. Police could not say which high school the students attended.
