In The News For Tuesday October 30, 2018

OPP were called to investigate a Break and Enter a home in Russell Township between 7:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on October 25th. The owner of the home notified police that three firearms and electronic devices were stolen. Anyone with information regarding the person responsible for this incident or if anyone observed suspicious activity in the area should contact Russell County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

 

Business owners along High Street in Vankleek Hill continue to be adversely affected because of the street closure, which is now into its sixth week. Main Street and Highway 34 North are accessible however, access to several businesses is limited and difficult. Some businesses were without telephone service for three and half days as part of one outage, due to a Bell line being cut during construction.

 

Ottawa Police are investigating a shooting on Gilmour St., near Bronson Ave. Police say shots were fired into a home at around 7:30 a.m. And two people have been wounded in a late-night shooting in Britannia on Ritchie Street. Both of the wounded were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

 

The union representing Canada Post workers says six-thousand members in Montreal walked off the job last night as part of its second week of nation-wide rotating strikes. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has updated its website this morning to say walkouts will also continue in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, in the Ontario locations of Oshawa and Peterborough, and in the B-C communities of Royal City, Upper Valley, Fraser Valley West, Squamish and Prince George. In its own statement, Canada Post warns that the Montreal walkout will have a significant impact on operations, since it is an important processing hub.
