The Canadian Union of Postal Workers says its rotating strikes have moved to Ottawa, Arnprior and Renfrew as they hit the picket lines this morning  at 6:00. Postal staff in Smiths Falls and Petawawa are also on strike. CUP-W says another 15 communities across the country are taking part in strikes at this hour in Ontario, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. Two Prince Edward Island cities have joined colleagues from across the country in sporadically walking out to back contract demands. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers says rotating walkouts were launched in Charlottetown and Summerside just after midnight local time, and at 1 a-m in Joliette, Quebec, shortly after six-thousand workers ended their 24-hour strike in Montreal.

 

 

Jeffrey Cameron a  47-year-old Cornwall man is facing charges after police found 16 bricks of cocaine, weighing 18 kg, in an SUV. The seizure was part of a Cornwall Regional Task Force border integrity operation along the St. Lawrence River near Cornwall last October 17 .Officers tried to stop the driver of the black SUV  after they spotted the exchange of a duffel bag between people on a boat and someone riding in the black SUV. The driver failed to stop and fled. The driver was arrested after the SUV was found a short time later. Cameron’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 5, at the Alexandria Provincial Court house.

 

 

Quebec Police are investigating a suspected drug lab in Mirabel after firefighters were called to a fire where a severely burned 47-year-old man was found and police noticed signs that the location was possibly being used for producing synthetic drugs.  The facility is now in the process of being dismantled. Explosives technicians are among those assisting with the cleanup that according to police say could take several days. The man’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.

 

 

Provincial police are investigating a deadly crash just north of Maxville. Shortly after 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon a car traveling southbound on  ‘The Highland Road’ – turned east toward County Road 24 into the path of a northbound motorcycle. The motorcycle rider died at the scene.
