A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting at Cartier Metro in Laval last week, during which a teenage girl was shot in the stomach.
Laval resident Dylan Denis turned himself in Monday and appeared in court the following day, arraigned on charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault and breach of probation.
Last week Tuesday, a 15-year-old girl was with a group of friends outside the Metro station, near the corner of Cartier and des Laurentides boulevards, around 12:30 a.m. when she was involved in a verbal altercation.
She and the other members of the group crossed the street and soon after, gunshots were fired in their direction. The victim was hit in the abdomen at least once.
The girl was taken to hospital and underwent an operation, but her injuries were not life-threatening.
Const. Franco di Genova said investigators received word early on that Denis was the alleged shooter. It doesn’t appear that Denis was involved in the altercation, but police have reason to believe he pulled the trigger.
It is unclear if the girl was the intended target, di Genova said. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
Denis has prior convictions and is known to police, di Genova said.
