Anne Comtois Lalonde, director of social services for the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR), says since February 2017, Ontario’s Child Care Expansion Plan has helped open new daycare spots  across Prescott-Russell during the past year and a half.  139 new spots were opened for children up to four, while the Canada-Ontario Early Learning and Child Care Agreement has helped open another 275 for children up to 12 since September of last year. That totals to more than 400 in all.  The UCPR’s pilot program will only last until the end of this year and  next year’s commitment is not yet known. With the new Ford government, Comtois Lalonde says she’s unsure if the programs will continue.

Bombardier’s head of transportation has apologized to the Toronto Transit Commission board for the latest problems with his company’s streetcars. The T-T-C has said that the first 67 of 89 streetcars it ordered would be sent back for preventative repairs. Benoit Broissoit says Bombardier understands the T-T-C’s disappointment, but says the problems don’t pose a safety risk to riders or staff. He says the company is fully committed to the delivery of the rest of the cars by the end next year.
